Pero, en el caso de la s\u00edlice cristalina, la m\u00e1s importante es la fracci\u00f3n de polvo respirable, por sus posibles efectos sobre la salud de los seres humanos. El tama\u00f1o de las part\u00edculas puede variar de forma muy significativa dependiendo del material con el que trabaje. Las materias primas en forma de polvo fino ya pueden contener part\u00edculas de tama\u00f1o respirable. El agua contribuye a reducir el polvo, por lo que los materiales con un contenido h\u00famedo m\u00e1s elevado tienden a desprender menos polvo cuando se manipulan y se usan.
