Je kan specifieke percentages terugvinden in de NEPSI Good Practice Guide, of in technische informatie geleverd door fabrikanten van de materialen. Wat kristallijn silica betreft, is het echter zo dat de inadembare stoffractie de meest belangrijke is vanwege de mogelijke gezondheidseffecten bij mensen. Afhankelijk van het materiaal waarmee je werkt, kan de deeltjesgrootte aanzienlijk vari\u00ebren. Grondstoffen die fijne poeders zijn kunnen al deeltjes bevatten binnen het inadembaar gebied. Water helpt bij het onderdrukken van stof, zodat materialen met een hogere vochtinhoud minder stof vrijgeven bij behandeling en gebruik.
