No entanto, no caso da s\u00edlica cristalina, a fra\u00e7\u00e3o de p\u00f3 respir\u00e1vel \u00e9 a mais importante devido \u00e0s potenciais consequ\u00eancias para a sa\u00fade. Dependendo do material com que se trabalha, o tamanho das part\u00edculas pode variar significativamente. As mat\u00e9rias-primas que s\u00e3o p\u00f3s finos podem j\u00e1 conter part\u00edculas que se encontram no intervalo de tamanho respir\u00e1vel. A \u00e1gua ajuda a suprimir o p\u00f3, pelo que os materiais com um teor de humidade mais elevado tendem a libertar menos p\u00f3 quando s\u00e3o manuseados e utilizados.
