Chapter 4 – RCS dust control for specific activities
Workstation: Emptying bags
Click on the hotspots for pop up information about that part of the image.
There are four hotspots to find, once you’ve read them all, move on!

For all bags
Enclose the bag emptying equipment as much as possible and keep it under negative pressure by using a local exhaust ventilation system.
For big bags
For single trip bags, use bag emptying equipment featuring pyramidal cutting knives and a rubber membrane. For multiple trip bags, a discharge system with a vibrator plate should be used.
Bag crushing
Bag crushing creates a lot of dust. In order to dispose of bags without creating dust, drop them into a large plastic sack supported and held open by a metal frame. When it is full, seal off the sack and dispose of it in a suitable waste skip. Don’t let it overflow.
For small bags
Ensure you tip the contents gently – never dump them! Bags should be emptied with the open end facing away. The use of automatic or semi-automatic bag emptying stations is recommended.
