Materials that generate RCS dust
RCS dust is created when materials that contain crystalline silica are cut, crushed, ground, and used in other high energy processes.
Crystalline silica, in the form of the mineral quartz, is found in many different materials – with sandstone being almost pure quartz. The table below gives an indication of typical levels of “free” crystalline silica (the type that leads to RCS dust) in certain types of mineral:
