There are 5 main control techniques used to reduce exposure to dust at work. These are:

Good Hygiene / Housekeeping

Washing work clothes and vacuuming up dust produced by processes stops dust accumulating over time – a clean workspace is a safe one.

Ventilation / Extraction

Air control systems help maintain safe air quality by capturing RCS at source, before we are exposed to it, and replacing contaminated air with clean air.

Protective Equipment

PPE (e.g. respiratory protective equipment) protects workers from dust when all other control measures are insufficient to control exposure risks.

Water

When a material is wet, dust is prevented from becoming airborne.
